Jeff Ogden, PGA Class A Head Professional
Jeff is proudly serving in his 13th year as Head Professional at Santa Rosa G&CC. A northern California native, Jeff first picked up a golf club at age 14 while living in the Monterey area. He often caddied in the Crosby Pro-Am and spent his money on lessons with legendary instructor Ben Doyle. Jeff has vivid memories of watching Doyle’s protégé, Bobby Clampett and other tour players while spending countless hours at the Carmel Valley practice range. Practicing and playing during every waking moment resulted in rapid improvement and Jeff soon joined the Salinas HS golf team. While at Hartnell Junior College, Jeff played on two league championship teams before transferring to San Jose State University. Upon graduation from SJSU, Jeff worked in advertising for two years before returning to golf. Jeff was hired as an assistant pro at SRGCC in 1989. In 1991, Jeff took a position as Director of Instruction at the Tony Lema GC in San Leandro. Working with state-of-the-art video equipment Jeff honed his teaching skills through hundreds of lessons. Through the PGA, Jeff attended several teaching summits learning from Hank Haney, Butch Harmon, Gary Wiren, and others. Jeff became a certified club fitter in 1991 back in the infancy of the custom fitting concept. After two years of full time teaching, Jeff returned to SRGCC and earned his PGA Class A status in 1994.
Jeff enjoys the challenge of working with beginning golfers, but works with players of all ability levels. He believes that sound fundamentals, along with balance, rhythm, and timing are the keys to a reliable golf swing. Although he often uses video equipment for swing analysis, keeping things simple is generally the key to long-term improvement.
